Hereditary Cardiopathies analysis

Cardiovascular diseases constitute a very broad group of diseases of the circulatory system, the myocardium, the electric circuit of the heart and the familial (hereditary) heart diseases. According to WHO, the leading cause of death worldwide.

Genetic components and environmental factors isolated as traumas or infections are some of the causes of these pathologies. The genetic study is fundamental to provide information on the prognosis and clinical management of these patients.

  1. What are these tests?

    They are tests that study the genetic material (DNA) present in oral cells. Since a single clinical manifestation may be associated with different genes, the genetic study is addressed through massive sequencing NGS (Next Generation Sequencing) of 347 genes that, to date, are related to hereditary cardiovascular diseases.

  2. Who are they targeting?

    To persons with a personal or family history of arrhythmias, cardiomyopathy, sudden death, cardiac arrest with no known cause, aortic alterations, hypercholesterolemia, pulmonary hypertension or congenital heart disease to try to identify the cause of the disease.

    If the genetic cause is determined in the affected index case, the study of relatives who may be at risk is much easier and cheaper.

  3. What can they contribute to my daily life?

    Individuals with a family history can obtain a great benefit from the genetic study in the affected family member, and then, through a simple test, know if they are carriers or not of the same family mutation. If the result is positive, specialist facultative will be able to establish even greater control, with periodic and frequent reviews. If it is negative, you should follow the general recommendations of weight control, avoid alcohol and tobacco consumption, perform moderate exercise and control hypertension.

    All recommendations for prevention in cardiovascular health are aimed at both men and women, since the risk of women increases and equals that of men after menopause.

  4. How is the sample taken?

    You will receive at your home by courier a sample collection kit with very easy to follow instructions and with an informed consent that you must sign. The sampling is very simple, quick and painless. You only must maintain the precautions that are detailed in the kit. Once made and previous notice, a courier will come at your home to pick it up and take it directly to the laboratory for analysis.
