Fructose intolerance analysis

Fructose intolerance is the inherited deficiency of the protein that is responsible for digesting the sugars called fructose and sucrose. These sugars are found naturally in fruits and also, they are used as sweeteners in many processed foods, including those of babies.

Symptoms may appear at the same time that babies begin to eat solid foods or formula milk and have difficulty feeding, hepatic impairment, growth retardation, and hypoglycemia.

  1. What are these tests?

They are tests that study our genetic material (DNA) present in the cells of the buccal mucosa, which detect polymorphisms (genetic variants) in genes associated with the risk of permanent genetic intolerance to fructose individually or in combination with gluten and lactose.

  2. Who are they targeting?

It is indicated in children and infants who present symptoms such as insufficient weight gain, hypoglycaemia, dehydration, nausea, vomiting and liver dysfunction.

  3. What can they contribute to my daily life?

The knowledge of the genetic risk allows to determine if the symptomatology is due to a permanent or temporary intolerance to these foods. Based on this, it will be possible to establish nutritional guidelines adapted and supervised by a specialist that will improve the quality of life.

  4. How is the sample taken?

You will receive at your home by courier a sample collection kit with very easy to follow instructions and with an informed consent that you must sign. The sampling is very simple, quick and painless. You only must maintain the precautions that are detailed in the kit. Once made and previous notice, a courier will come at your home to pick it up and take it directly to the laboratory for analysis.
