Alzheimer risk analysis

Late-onset Alzheimer's disease is the most common neurodegenerative disorder in the population. It usually appears in people over 65 years and its prevalence increases with aging.

In 60-80% of patients with late onset Alzheimer disease, the same genetic variants have been found in the APOE gene (APOE4 allele), which has been established as the main genetic risk factor, although other environmental factors may also influence its development. Knowing the predisposition to develop this dementia allows establishing preventive measures that delay the onset of symptoms.

How does it work?

  1. elige tu test genético
Choose your analysis and a healthcare professional will contact you in 48 hours
  2. frotis bucal para análisis
You will receive a sample collector kit at home that will be picked up by a courier
  3. instrucciones de uso
One of our partner labs will proceed to make the analysis
  4. instrucciones de uso
Your healthcare professional will present your results by videoconference
  1. What are these tests?

They are tests that study our genetic material (DNA) present in oral cells, which detect polymorphisms (genetic variants) in gene associated with late-onset Alzheimer.

  2. Who are they targeting?

    They are addressed to:

    • Asymptomatic individuals with a family background of Alzheimer's disease

    • People who begin to have minor cognitive failures

    • Anyone with a concern to know their risk regarding their predisposition to Alzheimer's disease

  3. What can they contribute to my daily life?

The presence of the APOE4 variant increases up to 10 times the risk of developing Alzheimer's. Knowing the existence of this predisposition to develop the disease is very useful in clinical management, to monitor and control other factors that may also influence such as hypertension, diabetes or hyperlipidemia. In this way, a qualified specialist can give the patient an adequate diet rich in fish, vegetables and fruits, avoiding the consumption of tobacco and alcohol and advise him to carry out activities that stimulate memory.

  4. How is the sample taken?

You will receive at your home by courier a sample collection kit with very easy to follow instructions and with an informed consent that you must sign. The sampling is very simple, quick and painless. You only have to maintain the precautions that are detailed in the kit. Once made and previous notice, a courier will come at your home to pick it up and take it directly to the laboratory for analysis.
