Booster doses for a complete vaccination schedule

To explain what a full vaccination schedule is, we must first specify that it is the vaccine against Sars-Cov-2, better known as coronavirus or Covid-19. With the onset of the pandemic in 2019, and the rapid spread of the virus around the world, this health emergency led to many protocols being put in place.

The most important of all: vaccination; pharmaceutical companies such as Pfizer and biotech companies such as BioNTech are just some of the suppliers of vaccines accepted by the European Union and many countries around the world. Currently, according to the European Commission, the approved vaccines are:

  • BioNTech and Pfizer
  • Moderna
  • Astrazeneca
  • Johnson & Johnson / Janssen Pharmaceuticals
  • Novavax

Being vaccinated against Covid-19 is now a mandatory requirement for travel, inside or outside the EU, and each country has established to what extent it is essential to present a complete vaccination schedule when arriving in its territory; but how do I know if I have a complete vaccination schedule? We explain you.

The EU covid certificate

As we have explained in the post What is the EU COVID CERTIFICATE, since February 1st the European Union issued a measure explaining that the validity of the vaccination schedule is 9 months, counted from 14 days after the application of the second dose in multi dose vaccines or the single dose in single-dose vaccines.

Once this time has elapsed, the person has two options to extend the validity of their certificate:

  • Having been infected with Covid and requesting a certificate of recovery.
  • To be vaccinated with a booster or booster dose.

Without either of these, the EU Covid Certificate will not be valid for this person, and if they wish to travel, depending on the country they are going to, they will have to take an RT-PCR test or a rapid antigen test.

If you are considering an upcoming trip and mobility restrictions at your destination require an RT-PCR or rapid antigen test for travel, at medmesafe, we provide all kinds of Covid-19 tests, authorized for international travel and with exclusive discounts for our clients:

Third dose, booster or booster dose

The world health organization (WHO) defines on their web, at the article Interim statement on booster doses for COVID-19 vaccination, the 3rd dosis as

“Booster doses are administered to a vaccinated population that has completed a primary vaccination series (currently one or two doses of EUL COVID-19 vaccine depending on the product) when, with time, the immunity and clinical protection has fallen below a rate deemed sufficient in that population. The objective of a booster dose is to restore vaccine effectiveness from that deemed no longer sufficient.”

Covid diagnostic tests as an alternative to travel

Governments around the world have been encouraging vaccination in their countries, and have begun to require Covid certification for access to recreational and leisure venues as a way of exerting pressure. For those who do not wish to be vaccinated, the only alternative is to undergo RT-PCR or antigen testing.

In the case of Spain, all accredited laboratories – public and private – are able to issue a covid test certificate with a negative result, which is included in the public health database, so that unvaccinated people can travel.

If you want to know how long each test is valid, we invite you to read our article What is the EU COVID CERTIFICATE?
