Currently travel from the EU (Schengen area) is prohibited, Spain included, this measure known as the “GTB” for its acronym in English (Geographic Travel Ban) will disappear as of November 1, 2021.
Once completed, all those who meet the following requirements may travel to the North American country:
- Visa authorizing entry into the country.
- Complete vaccination schedule, with any of the 3 vaccines accepted by the United States (Pfizer, Moderna, and Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen).
- Covid-19 test (RT-PCR or antigen test) is carried out no more than 3 days before your flight.
About the vaccination schedule
The first two (Pfizer and Moderna) are considered complete regimens, when 14 days have passed since the last dose administered; which in this case must be 2. If the person has been vaccinated with Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen, which is a single dose, they must also have 14 days after its application. The vaccination certificate does not have a mandatory language in which it must be written, however, it is suggested to be in English, Spanish, or Portuguese.
According to the CDC, passengers who are fully vaccinated are not required to quarantine upon arrival, however, each locality may have different forecasts on the matter, according to their levels of infection. That is why it is recommended to check the local restrictions of each place you will attend within the USA.
Covid-19 tests valid to travel to the USA from Spain
All people who want to enter the United States (vaccinated or not vaccinated) must present one of the following tests, carried out within no more than 3 days (72 hours).
The certificate of said tests must contain:
- Personal information of the patient (name, surname, passport, and date of birth)
- Test date
- QR code
- Certified laboratory data
- A negative result of the same, tests with invalid or inconclusive results is not accepted.
There is another option to demonstrate immunity to the virus, if the person has been infected with Covid-19 in the last 90 days, they can present their current test (RT-PCR, antigens, or RT-Lamp) with a positive result, which supports that it has generated immunity to the disease. In addition, he must have a certificate issued by a health authority, reaffirming his health status against Covid-19.
