Requirements for travel from Spain to Thailand

Updated on 08 February

Currently, the requirements for travel from Spain to Thailand have quite specific time requirements, as we have discussed in this blog with our posts on requirements for travel to Italy, Portugal, Venezuela and many other destinations; it is now mandatory to be vaccinated against Covid-19 in order to travel to most countries.

Each territory is autonomous to establish the entry rules it deems appropriate, which means that some destinations – in addition to the full vaccination schedule – also require an RT-PCR test prior to entry into their country. Such is the case of Thailand, here is a list of all requirements

Requirements for travel from Spain to Thailand (2022)

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation maintains up-to-date and accurate information on what each country requires for travel, in the case of Thailand it is as follows:

    • Certificate of vaccination: At least 14 days must have passed since the last dose received, if you have passed the disease and you have only received one dose, you must bring with you a doctor’s report that supports this situation.
    • RT-PCR test: Thailand does NOT accept rapid antigen testing for travel, this RT-PCR test must be performed no more than 72 hours prior to boarding your flight.
    • Thailand Pass QR Code: This code can take up to 7 days to arrive, so it is recommended to fill in this form well in advance.
    • Medical insurance: This policy must have coverage of at least $50,000, and include the costs incurred if the patient contracts Covid in the country.
    • MorChana application: Upon arrival in Thailand, a second RT-PCR test will be performed to determine that the person does not have Covid.

Thailand is one of the favourite destinations for Spaniards who want adventure away from home, however, it is also known for its harsh penalties for those who break the law. That is why it is vital to complete all the above requirements correctly.

Thailand and its Test&Go protocol

From the 1st of February, all Spanish travellers arriving in Thailand with their requirements in order, will be able to opt out of quarantine if they obtain a negative RT-PCR test result. On the Iati Insurance website, we have a post where each of these requirements is explained step by step.

In their article Requirements for travelling to Thailand and necessary documentation 2022 they explain the following about this measure: “(…) The PCR test can be done at the airport, at a medical centre or laboratory or at the hotel itself. (…) Once at the hotel (where you will have to show all the above documents), you will have to wait for the PCR test and stay there until you receive the results. (…) After this day, you can discover the rest of Thailand at your leisure. But always respect the restrictions and hygiene measures imposed by the government”.
