RT-PCR from a self-shot is already a reality, now you can order a COVID-19 RT-PCR Test - Self-shot at the comfort of your home. Avoid taking the sample through the nose, and use this test similar to self-saliva. Your kit contains the necessary instructions and permits for you to collect your sample, deliver it to an authorized courier, who takes the package to the indicated laboratory. In this way, it is sought to reduce the waiting time for the test result, and the long lines in some laboratories today. It is also a cheaper option than in-center PCR.
You will not have to go to any laboratory to take the test, the result is valid for travel to destinations such as the Canary Islands and the Balearic Islands or in any country in the world. It is the best alternative for families or people who want to travel from Spain to different tourist destinations this summer 2021.
Self-collection is through gargling so that the test detects the presence of Covid-19 or the new coronavirus as an RT-PCR would do with a nasopharyngeal sample. It is valid for travel since the certificate contains all the international requirements necessary to affirm that the person is not infected with the virus.
It is a much more comfortable test to perform, especially for children and older adults. Results are delivered within 24 hours of receipt by the courier, and shipping is available throughout Spain. This type of test detects the virus even in asymptomatic people. We work with certified laboratories in more than 90 centers throughout Spain. You only have to place your order before 5:30 p.m. from Monday to Friday and you will receive your kit the next morning at the indicated address. Once you carry out the self-sampling, you will have an instruction manual to request its collection and the laboratory is in charge of processing it.

Since February 2021, the EU has been in talks to create a Covid-19 digital certificate, which facilitates mobility between countries for European citizens. This is due to the negative impact that the pandemic has had on tourism, especially in countries such as Spain and Portugal, which have been among the most affected.

Finally, on May 20, 2021, the EU has approved the creation and use of this Covid-19 digital certificate, a document where information such as:

  • If the person has been vaccinated.
  • A negative result in PCR or antigen test.
  • Antibody test if you have passed Covid-19.

According to a Euractiv report, most EU countries should be “technically ready” to implement the certificate system by the first week of June with the official launch expected at the end of that month.

The travel certificate idea was initially tabled by Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis in January in an attempt to facilitate safe travel and re-start economies. Welcomed by global tourism and travel stakeholders, the digital green certificate concept was further pushed forward by the European Commission last month (read more here).

Why does Spain want vaccination certificates?

According to the website, in Their article Spain to introduce COVID-19 vaccination certificate expalins “One of the priorities for Spain going into 2021 is to help the tourist industry recover after the coronavirus pandemic has ravaged the sector throughout 2020. Like many countries, Spain introduced travel restrictions in order to contain the virus, which have caused tourism to suffer.

Once people have been vaccinated, in theory, they will be unable to catch coronavirus and pass it on. In this case, it may be safe for them to travel without the risk of infecting others or bringing the virus home again after the trip”.

At medmesafe we place at your disposal a network of certified laboratories to carry out your PCR Test (throughout Spain), Home PCR Test, Rapid Antibody Test, and Rapid Antigen Test by contacting us through the following form.

Spain will not require vaccinations, tests, or vaccination passports from British tourists as of May 20. The Government of Spain, in its attempt to reactivate tourism in the country, has negotiated with the European Union that citizens from the United Kingdom (one of the main countries from where most tourists travel) do not have to present PCR or antigen tests when entering Spain.

The measure was announced on May 13 by Fernando Valdés, Secretary of State for Tourism, after a seminar on the European Parliament sector in Madrid. “Countries with a low incidence should not pose a risk and could come without CRP, from the UK or any other third country. And the same will be done with the rest of Europe ”.

For the summer 2021, Spin is expecting the arrival of between 30% and 40% of international tourists who came to the country before the outbreak of the health crisis, according to estimates by the Independent Authority for Fiscal Responsibility (Airef), the body in charge of ensuring the stability of public accounts.

It means that if you travel from the United Kingdom to Spain you do NOT need to perform a PCR test or antigens for the detection of Covid-19, but upon your return to the UK, you should perform a PCR test in Spain before traveling to the United Kingdom. Below, we detail the three requirements you need to enter the United Kingdom upon your return from Spain:

People who want to enter the United Kingdom from Spain must:

  • Take a Covid-19 detection test maximum of 72 hours before boarding your plane or ferry, either a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) or antigen test.

  • Book and pay for the COVID-19 post-trip tests on day 2 and day 8, which will be taken after you arrive in the United Kingdom.

  • Complete the passenger location form, you can find it at this link.

Upon arrival in the UK you must:

  • Quarantine at home or where you are staying for 10 days.

  • Take the COVID-19 test on or before day 2 and or after day 8.

  • You may be able to end the quarantine early if you pay for a private COVID-19 test.

The Minister for Industry, Reyes Maroto has expressed that there is a high probability that Spain will go green in the June review by the British Government, in this way travelers would not have to quarantine when returning to their country: “we have asked to differentiate the epidemiological situation by region. If not, we will have to continue to lower the incidence throughout the country, but we are convinced that the British will be able to spend their summer holidays in Spain if they want,” the minister concluded.

Under any scenario, we have prepared a post on all the requirements that the PCR and antigen test certificate must meet so that they can travel back to the United Kingdom, the data that must appear on the certificate, and the times of results throughout Spain. We also have quality service for all travelers who need to perform these tests in Spain.

Requirements to travel to Spain from the UK

Good news for Spanish Expatsand and british turists who live in the UK and want to see their families or enjoy the beatiful landscapes that Spain has to offer, the Government has made recent statements of having plans to include Spain in the "green" list of countries to visit, but what does this mean?

Due to the coronavirus crisis, the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control distributes the information on three separate maps for the three indicators defined as essential: cumulative incidence rate at the regional level (positive cases of coronavirus per 100,000 inhabitants notified every 14 days), PCR test rates and positivity nationwide.

The summer of 2020 did not favor the regular visit on Spanish territory, according to the newspaper El Confidencial, "In 2019, the 18 million visitors from the United Kingdom accounted for 23% of the total number of tourists received in Spain. They spent about 18,000 million euros. In 2020, however, only 3.2 million visitors were registered in the middle of the pandemic." It is stated that the main cause of this is that, when cataloging Spain within the list of red countries, people who visited the territory had to keep quarantine for 15 days upon return.

With the inclusion of vaccines and greater knowledge of the effects of Covid-19 on people, the United Kingdom is considering making current measures more flexible, so that Spain, being within the green list of destinations, travelers from the country should not keep quarantine on your return to the UK. Even so, a PCR test must be carried out when leaving the country and another on their return.

At medmesafe we have an extensive list of clients who have used our PCR test and PCR test at home to return to their country, we collaborate with highly reputable laboratories throughout Spain whose certificates meet all the requirements for their entry into the United Kingdom. We have all the corresponding information in this post.

As a requirement to return to the UK, RT-PCR, LAMP, and antigen tests are accepted. The certificate must contain basic information such as:

  • Names and surnames of the patient.

  • Patient identification number (passport or DNI).

  • The date on which the sample was taken.

  • Laboratory data, which includes: device by which the sample was analyzed, name and data of the technician who validates the test, sample result (negative or positive), day and time the report is delivered.

  • Unique QR code so that the corresponding staff can check the validity of the report.

Currently, Spain is studying the end of the state of alarm on May 9, which cancels the mobility restrictions between Communities, in this way all people will be able to circulate throughout the country, respecting the restrictions of each Community. Similarly, the confirmation by the British Government on the classification of Spain at the traffic light will be announced on June 17. This has generated an increase in reservations of Spanish tourist places by the English, mainly in the Canary Islands.

Currently, all persons wishing to enter French territory must submit an RT-PCR test less than 72 hours after it has been carried out. This is a preventive measure to stop the expansion of Covid-19 or coronavirus. Many of our French users have doubts about: prices, deadlines, how to request a refund for the test in France. So we have prepared this post to clarify some of your respective doubts.

Is the PCR test covered in Spain?

In theory, the Spanish public health system can cover your test only if you have strong symptoms or if you are in contact with a Covid-19 positive person. However, your CRP test will not be covered or paid for by Spanish social security if it is done for travel. In this case, you will have to pay the price of the test to be able to do it.

How much does a PCR test cost in Spain?

The prices of the PCR test in Spain vary according to the laboratory, the region where it is performed, and especially the speed of obtaining the results. They range from a minimum of € 100 and can reach up to € 300 if you want the results in an hour.

Due to saturation, most laboratories:

  • Request an appointment to collect the sample, however, it is often difficult to contact them.
  • They do not commit to a specific delivery time for results.

That is why at medmesafe we understand the need to feel supported in these times of stress and uncertainty, we support you throughout the process by phone, WhatsApp, or email:

  • We guarantee your appointment at all the extraction points that you will find on our website.
  • Delivery of results within 24 to 48 hours, from the taking of the sample, we work on continuous days so it is also estimated on weekends.

The price of a PCR testing service through medmesafe is € 109 (see details here). It includes:

  • Management of your appointment
  • Certificate in English or Spanish
  • Valid to travel to any international destination
  • Assistance by WhatsApp, phone, and email
  • The delivery of results by an accredited laboratory within the agreed deadlines on weekdays and weekends (Saturday and Sunday).

For more information:

Can I get a refund for the PCR test that I performed in Spain, once back in France?

In Spain this is not the case, from what we explained above, even so, it is possible to obtain a refund of € 60 upon your return to France. To do this, you must send the following duly completed statement to your Health Insurance Center and attach the required supporting documents.

Our customer service will provide you with an invoice to attach to your file so that you can request a lump sum refund of € 60 and we invite you to contact your mutual to ask if it also covers part of the expenses incurred.

We draw your attention to the fact that the situation may change and that it is best to contact the different official bodies such as the French Embassy in Spain, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Medical Insurance.

French traveling in Europe is also strongly advised to apply for the European Health Insurance Card (TSE). This card allows Spain not to advance the costs related to a medical emergency within the framework of a course of treatment within the Spanish social security. More information:
