What Covid test do I need to travel from Spain to Ireland now?

What Covid test do I need to travel from Spain to Ireland now?, whether you travel with a low-cost airline like Ryanair, Aer Lingus, Ethiopian Airlines or a little more expensive like Lufthansa, Turkish Airlines, or Tap Portugal; I currently need an RT-PCR test to enter Irish territory, and no, a rapid antigen test is not valid.

To travel to Ireland this fall, it is essential that I do an RT-PCR test a maximum of 72 hours before my trip, even though I am fully vaccinated against Covid-19. This test must show a negative result to be valid, antigen tests are not accepted for travel to Irish territory.

Currently, like most countries, the protocol to enter Ireland will depend on whether or not I am vaccinated against Covid-19. The complete vaccination schedule accepted in the country is 2 doses of the Pfizer vaccines (6-7 days after the last dose), Moderna, Astrazeneca, or 1 dose of the Jenssen (Johnson & Johnson) vaccine 14 days after application the last dose.

Once my vaccination status has been determined, I must declare if I have been in the last 14 days in a country belonging to the European Union or not, below the requirements of each case.

If I have been within the EU for the last 14 days I need:

  • Fill out the Covid-19 Passenger Location Form before flight departure.
  • Valid proof of vaccination (with the parameters mentioned above).
  • Post covid-19 recovery test
  • An RT-PCR test performed no more than 72 hours before the trip, IRELAND DOES NOT ACCEPT ANTIGEN TEST FOR TRAVEL

If I meet all the requirements, I will not have to quarantine or take other diagnostic tests for Covid-19 after I arrive.

If I have been outside the EU in the last 14 days:

I must present the same requirements as above:

  • Covid-19 passenger location form before flight departure.
  • Valid proof of vaccination (with the parameters above).
  • Post covid-19 recovery test
  • An RT-PCR test performed no more than 72 hours before the trip, IRELAND DOES NOT ACCEPT ANTIGEN TEST FOR TRAVEL

The difference will be in whether I have a vaccination certificate validated by the EU or not. Vaccines such as Sinopharm, Cansino, Sinovac, etc.; are not admitted by the European Union or the United Kingdom, therefore I will have to KEEP QUARANTINE for the 14 days after my arrival.
